Some of the Best Restaurants in Coconut Grove

October 12, 2022

From Michelin-starred gems to out-of-this-world diners, there is a wealth of exquisite dining options close to the Coconut Grove homes for sale at Vita at Grove Isle. Here are some of the finest.

Los Felix Miami | 3413 Main Highway

Proudly adorned with a Michelin star, and praised for its "highly creative Mexican cooking", Los Felix Miami is a joyous celebration of indigenous heritage, passed down through family recipes. Humble food is elevated to a higher plane—corn grits studded with black truffles and finger limes; pork cheeks braised with oranges, pumpkin sprouts and hazelnut matcha. Throw in a superb menu of natural wines, uber-chic Mexican decor, and old vinyls spinning in the background, and you realize why this eatery gets the plaudits it does.

Ariete | 3540 Main Highway

In the blink of an eye, you can be at Ariete from your Vita at Grove Isle home. Here, you become part of Michael Beltran's Michelin-starred world; the Cuban executive chef brings pizazz and excellence with every dish—from the wood-grilled oysters with bone marrow butter and charred lime through to “The Cigar” rolled with hazelnut praline and espresso ice cream. Locals will revel in weekly tasting menus that change with the rhythm of the seasons. And, as one of just four restaurants in the country that offers Canard à la Presse, it presents you and your friends with a tableside show that delivers dry-aged duck lacquered with guarapo and local honey. Dining here is not just divine but positively transformative.

Chug's | 3444 Main Highway

Take a quintessential, stars-and-stripes diner, add the flair of a certain Michael Beltran (of Ariete fame), and you've got yourself Chug's. Morning, noon and night, Vita at Grove Isle residents can stroll into this Insta-friendly joint, and pick something off its next-level menu. Dishes like cast iron pancakes, veggie hash and the "Chug Burger" will ensure you won't go hungry. But if you're just here for a couple of Diner Old Fashioneds... who are we to judge?

Sushi from Scratch | 3242 Charles Avenue

Offering one of Miami's most exclusive dining experiences, Sushi from Scratch invites just 10 guests at a time to prop up the counter, and watch highly skilled chefs whip up a 17-course omakase menu. Divine dishes include nigiri crowned with pineapple pieces, melted bone marrow, and a beet mustard sauce. As one Infatuation reviewer puts it: "everything works deliciously."

PLANTA | 850 Commerce Street

Any myths that vegetarians are missing out are firmly dispelled at PLANTA, Steven Salm and David Lee's plant-based South Beach restaurant. An exhaustively innovative menu delights with eggplant nigiri, and spaghettini alla carbonara made with smoked tempeh and mushroom bacon. Liquid alchemy, meanwhile, is performed at the bar with cocktails like the Beet Drop, mixed with rye whisky, rosemary beet, lemon, ginger. Thank goodness it's happy hour five days of the week.

Fireman Derek's | 3435 Main Highway

A glut of publications sing the praises of this Coconut Grove bakery—from Eater, to Hello!to Time Out. Truth is, anyone who passes within a 10-meter radius of Fireman's Derek's willlikely be lured in by the aromas of fresh-baked guava cheesecake, rainbow sprinkle cookiesand salted caramel pie. If you can get any of this back to your condo in one piece, you're abetter person than us.
