Venture Into Coconut Grove’s Scenic Spots

June 13, 2025

Set on a 20-acre private island just offshore from Coconut Grove, Vita at Grove Isle offers a quiet vantage point on one of Miami’s greenest and most historic neighborhoods. Minutes from the island’s bridge, you’ll find a collection of scenic destinations that define the local landscape — some centered on active waterfront life, others preserving spectacular garden architecture and natural beauty. This piece highlights three of them: Regatta Park, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, and Alice C. Wainwright Park.

Built on the former site of a Pan American seaplane hangar, Regatta Park opened in 2015 as part of Coconut Grove’s long-term waterfront redevelopment. It sits beside Dinner Key Marina and directly behind Miami City Hall, where the old Pan Am terminal still stands. The 15-acre layout includes a boat ramp, an open promenade shaded by native trees, and wide lawns used year-round for festivals and sailing events. During Miami Sailing Week, the area transforms into a pop-up village with hospitality tents, music, and racing boats launching just offshore. Throughout the year, the park hosts a variety of events, but it’s equally suitable for everyday use: joggers, dog walkers, and families at the playground. Regatta Park is one of the few places in the Grove where green space, open water, and civic life meet in full view.

Just minutes south of Coconut Grove, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens offers one of Miami’s most breathtaking scenic experiences. The exuberant gardens create an almost otherworldly atmosphere through elaborate fountains, antique sculptures, and weathered coral stone architecture. The overall landscape is conceived as a series of garden rooms — the geometric parterres of the central space give way to the evocative Secret Garden, the intimate Theater Garden, and the playful Maze Garden. Each room reveals itself gradually as you wander, creating constant visual surprises and intimate discoveries. The centerpiece Garden Mound offers 360-degree views of Vizcaya’s distinct landscapes: the mangrove shore, the formal gardens, and the preserved native rockland. Here, enveloped by 200-year-old windswept oak trees, visitors discover dramatic contrasts between manicured European-style gardens and wild subtropical landscapes. The estate’s location on Biscayne Bay provides stunning water views, while the famous Stone Barge breakwater creates a dramatic focal point where the gardens meet the azure waters.

Alice C. Wainwright Park sits on a limestone ridge overlooking Biscayne Bay — a rare elevation in Miami that offers exceptional views of the water and skyline, especially at sunrise. The 28-acre park features native canopy trees and open lawns along the water, with visible outcrops of coral rock marking the edge of the ridge. The space is part nature preserve, part neighborhood hangout: Basketball courts and fitness equipment draw locals on weekends, while families use the playground and barbecue shelters. Cyclists stop here on the way to Key Biscayne; dog walkers loop the shaded paths. The park was named for Alice C. Wainwright, Miami’s first female city commissioner, who helped secure the land in the 1970s for public use and environmental protection.

Grove Isle is its own quiet ecosystem, planted with native palms, lined with limestone paths, and surrounded on all sides by Biscayne Bay. Vita sits at the center of it, shaped to follow the island’s natural curve and finished with materials that reflect its surroundings: native stone, hand-selected marble, deep wood tones. Just across the bridge, Coconut Grove’s scenic destinations offer their own version of that balance — open, preserved, and within easy reach. Contact the Vita at Grove Isle sales office today.
