A new Italian dining destination is arriving on Biscayne Bay. Opening this September at Vita at Grove Isle, La Sponda will bring together regional Italian cuisine, an extensive wine program, warm hospitality, and interiors by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio in an intimate waterfront setting.
La Sponda is the first Italian concept from Gioia Hospitality Group founders Thomas and Kassidy Angelo. Deeply personal to the family, the concept draws inspiration from Thomas Angelo’s roots in Puglia, along with years spent traveling throughout Italy and exploring its regional cuisine, wineries, artisans, and traditions.
Leading the culinary program is Chef Danny Ganem, who worked alongside the Angelo family to bring their vision to life. Fresh pasta will be made in-house daily, complemented by an evolving selection of crudo, antipasti, and seafood. Signature dishes include Spaghetti alla Chitarra al Tartufo with Burgundy truffles, Paccheri al Campagnolo with Maine lobster, Branzino alla Vernaccia, and Australian Wagyu Bistecca Fiorentina.
The wine program, curated by Wine & Beverage Director Daniel Bishop, is similarly rooted in Italy. The collection spans celebrated regions including Piemonte, Tuscany, Sicily, and Puglia, complemented by coastal Italian whites and selections from France, Spain, and California.
La Sponda’s setting is equally considered. Designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the restaurant blends timeless European elegance with the relaxed sophistication of Coconut Grove. Handcrafted furnishings, imported stone, custom tables, and artisan finishes sourced from Italy are paired with subtle local touches, including hand-painted lamps inspired by Coconut Grove’s iconic peacocks and tropical surroundings.
For Vita at Grove Isle, La Sponda adds a new dimension to life on the private island while building on Grove Isle’s longstanding legacy as one of Miami’s celebrated waterfront destinations. With approximately 120 seats, the restaurant is designed to feel both refined and welcoming, bringing together Italian craftsmanship, cuisine, and hospitality against the backdrop of Biscayne Bay. La Sponda will initially serve dinner Wednesday through Sunday, with reservations available on Resy.
